Dr. Allie Igwe is an environmental microbiologist who aims to understand how microscopic organisms that live near, on, and in plant roots adapt to their environment and affect the growth, development, stress tolerance, and medicinal properties of plants.
Her goal is to collaboratively restore degraded environments, curate green spaces for humans and native pollinators, and explore the historic and cultural relationship between humans, medicinal plants, and their associated microbes.
She earned her BS in Biology from Howard University, an MS in Soil Science from Texas A&M, and a PhD in Microbiology from the University of California - Davis. She currently works as a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Biology at the University of Miami.
