Justice Madden is currently a master’s student at Virginia Tech’s Department of Agricultural Leadership and Community Education and serves as a fellow for the Virginia Tech’s Center for Food Systems and Community Transformation. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Justice worked as an events coordinator for the John L. Warfield Center at UT Austin collaborating with students, faculty and community leaders to curate programs and develop resources that supported research and narratives from across the diaspora. She also worked with nonprofit, food system focused organization to promote farmers’ markets, food access and using food to empower youth through leadership opportunities in Virginia, Texas, and Barabdos. Building on this experience, her research focuses on decolonizing food systems, resilience and collective agency, and perserving cultural memory from the African diaspora through seed keeping and heirloom seeds.
